Find compatible RAM
- Use Crucial System Scanner or Kingston Memory Finder — enter your model and get a guaranteed-compatible list.
- Match DDR generation (DDR4 vs DDR5), speed, and voltage.
- Check the motherboard QVL (Qualified Vendor List) for exact model compatibility, especially for XMP/EXPO speeds.
Installation — desktop
- Power off and unplug.
- Open the side panel. Ground yourself by touching the metal chassis.
- Press the retention clips on both ends of the DIMM slot outward simultaneously.
- Align the RAM notch with the slot key. Press firmly until both clips snap closed — it takes more force than expected.
- For 2 sticks: use slots A2 and B2 (typically slots 2 and 4) for dual-channel operation.
Enable XMP/EXPO
After installing faster RAM, enter BIOS → enable XMP (Intel) or EXPO (AMD). Without this, RAM runs at JEDEC default (typically 2133 or 2400 MHz) regardless of its rated speed.
