Identify the panel
- Check the laptop model number (underside label or F2 in BIOS).
- Search the model on panelook.com or read the panel label directly (requires opening the bezel slightly).
- Note: IPS vs TN, resolution, connector type (30-pin eDP vs 40-pin eDP), and backlight type.
Source the replacement
eBay, Amazon, and lcdparts.net are common sources. Expect $40–$120 for most panels. Verify the part number exactly — similar-looking panels have incompatible connectors.
Replacement process
- Power off, remove battery if possible.
- Pry the plastic bezel off the display assembly — start from a corner, use a spudger or guitar pick. Most bezels use plastic clips, no screws.
- Remove 4–6 screws holding the panel to the hinge bracket.
- Tilt the panel forward, disconnect the eDP cable from the back of the panel. Disconnect the webcam cable if present.
- Connect the new panel, reinstall in reverse order.
