Should you update?

Update BIOS only when you have a specific reason: fixing a bug you are experiencing, adding support for a new CPU, or enabling a required security feature (Secure Boot, TPM 2.0). Routine "keep it updated" BIOS flashing carries unnecessary risk.

Find the right version

Check your motherboard model (CPU-Z → Mainboard tab or label on the board). Go to the manufacturer's support page, download the latest BIOS for your exact model revision.

Flash via BIOS utility (safest)

  1. Format a USB drive as FAT32.
  2. Copy the BIOS file (typically a .ROM or .CAP file) to the root of the USB.
  3. Enter BIOS → navigate to EZ Flash / Q-Flash / M-Flash (varies by brand).
  4. Select the file from the USB. The flash takes 3–5 minutes. Do not power off.

After flashing

BIOS settings reset to defaults. Re-enable XMP/EXPO, set AHCI mode, reconfigure boot order, and re-enable Secure Boot if needed.
